Careers: Depending on the choice of disciplines majoring in, the Bachelor of Arts lays the foundation for further studies and work in the following fields: Community engagement and development, counselling, cultural studies, diplomacy and politics, education, governance, heritage conservation, journalism, language services, media studies, policy analysis, psychology, societal analysis, work and organisational studies. Note: Students who wish to become psychologists must complete a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology, the Bachelor of Social Science Honours specialising in Psychology and the Master of Arts in Clinical, Counselling or Research Psychology.

English Home Language or English First Additional Language: 5. Applicants are considered for conditional admission with a minimum APS of 30 based on Grade 11 results. Final admission is confirmed with a minimum APS of 28 in the Grade 12 final results. Admission to this programme is initially based on school results. To continue in the programme, students must successfully complete departmental selection at the end of their first year. This process assesses academic performance and may include an aptitude test and interview. Requirement for selection into the second year: A general average mark of 60% for all the social work first year level modules respectively, and a weighted average of 60% for the rest of the required modules in the BSW programme. In terms of the Children's Act (2005), all registered student social workers have to complete Form 30 in Part B of the National Child Protection Register (NCPR).

Students who are interested in the Bachelor of Arts specialising in Philosophy, Politics and Economics programme, but do not comply with the 5 required in Mathematics, but have an APS of 32, a 4 in Mathematics and a 5 in English, may be admitted to another degree programme for the first year. If they register for STC 110 and STC 122 in their first year of study and pass both modules, they will be allowed to apply for an internal transfer to the BA(PPE) programme in their second year of study. Please note that students are required to pass STC 110 in order to continue with STC 122.

English Home Language or English First Additional Language: 5. The School of the Arts: Music selects candidates based on a practical singing or instrument performance of 15 minutes, as well as a theoretical test. Audition required: Video of a practical performance (with an achievement of at least 60%): A performance on the candidate's principal instrument. The performance should last about 15 minutes, and the programme must contain three works from different style periods (standard: at least Grade VII, Unisa/Royal Schools/Trinity practical music examinations); Online theoretical test (with an achievement of at least 60%): A written test that will assess the candidate's knowledge of elementary harmony (standard: at least Grade V, Unisa/Royal Schools/Trinity theory examinations). To retain final admission, you must obtain an APS of at least 28 in the Grade 12 final results. Applicants are considered for conditional admission with a minimum APS of 30 based on Grade 11 results.
