Undergraduate LLB (4 Years Minimum)

Band A (Guaranteed Admission): 500 FPS or above, NBT scores of proficient for AL and intermediate or above for QL. Band B (Likely Admission): 500 WPS or above, NBT scores of proficient for AL and intermediate or above for QL. Band C (Possible Admission for SA applicants in targeted redress categories): 470 FPS or above, NBT scores of proficient for AL and QL. International applicants (Probable Admission): 510 FPS or above, NBT scores of proficient for AL and intermediate or above for QL.

No more than ten international applicants will be accepted into the undergraduate LLB programme. For non-South African school-leaving certificates (A-level, AS-level, NSSC, IB Diploma), the APS requirements are: Probable admission: International (46+ APS), All SA (44+ APS), Redress SA (39+ APS). Minimum admission: International (44+ APS), All SA (40+ APS), Redress SA (38+ APS).

FACULTY OF LAW

Combined Humanities/Commerce LLB

Students receive a bachelor's degree in the Humanities or Commerce faculty (BA/BSocSci or BCom) at the end of their first three years of study, and a bachelor's degree in law (LLB) at the end of a further two years. Students must apply for admission to the Law Faculty at the end of their undergraduate Humanities or Commerce degree and must obtain a cumulative GPA of at least 60% in their UCT undergraduate degree in order to proceed to the two-year graduate LLB degree.

Allows candidates who do not meet the requirements for admission to the undergraduate LLB to apply for a Humanities or Commerce degree, to adapt to university studies, and, if they perform satisfactorily in their first year of study, to join the law stream in their second or third year.

FACULTY OF LAW

Combined BBusSci LLB

6 years minimum

Requires at least 6 years of study. Students must apply for admission to the Law Faculty at the end of their undergraduate degree and must obtain a cumulative GPA of at least 60% in their UCT undergraduate degree in order to proceed to the graduate LLB degree.

Additional Requirements

Students graduate with a degree in which they have a major in a commerce or humanities subject and a major in law.

FACULTY OF LAW

The Graduate LLB

3 years minimum

Key Requirements

For students who have completed an undergraduate degree in any discipline without having majored in law. Applicants must meet certain advertised admission requirements.

Additional Requirements

This route can be completed in a minimum of six years (3 + 3). Places are offered on a competitive basis.
