Tshwane University of Technology

Established in 2004, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is a leading African university of technology, offering world-class technology education and applied sciences to more than sixty-thousand students from across South Africa and the African continent. In 2026, TUT will start rolling out a visionary new ten-year Institutional Strategic Plan, which will also enable us to build entrepreneurial communities, one graduation cohort, one alumni chapter and one generation of staff members at a time. By 2024, TUT was ranked among the top 13 universities in South Africa by, amongst others, the Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR). In 2022, Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings rated our ICT programmes among the top 900 in the world. The Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment is the largest in the country and our programmes in engineering was rated in the top 400 globally by THE. In 2024, the THE Impact Rankings placed TUT between 401-600 out of 2 031 universities globally in SGD 17 (Partnership for the Goals) and between 301-400 out of 1 095 institutions on SDG 1 (No Poverty) in terms of impact. The University is also ranked fourth nationally among South Africa’s 26 public universities for creative research outputs.

Application Deadlines & Key Dates

Undergraduate applications for the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) for the 2027 academic year open on 1 April 2026, with the general closing date set for 30 September 2026, although some faculties close by 31 July 2026. A non-refundable R240 application fee applies, and applicants must use the online portal, as no walk-ins are permitted.
