Diploma in Grade R Teaching

Matric with a diploma endorsement and/or an Early Childhood Diploma with Level 4 and/or 5. Applicants who intend to register for the Diploma Gr R are also required to provide evidence that they are working in a Grade R classroom at a registered WCED ECD centre or school. Official language as enshrined in the Western Cape Language Policy (Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa) will be a requirement.

Language of Instruction: English. Home Language (4): Afrikaans, English or isiXhosa. First Additional Language (3): Afrikaans, English or isiXhosa (One of the languages must be the language of instruction). Mathematics (3) or Mathematical Literacy (5). Official language as enshrined in the Western Cape Language Policy (Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa) will be a requirement. Comments: NSC: An achievement rating of at least (4) in four subjects from the subject list (Bachelor’s degree endorsement). At least one of these four subjects should be an official language as enshrined in the Western Cape Language Policy (Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa). An achievement rating of at least (3) in another official language of South Africa. An achievement rating of at least (4) in subjects related to the elective offerings of the specific Teacher Education programme for which you applied, such as: Mathematics, Accounting, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences. OR NCV (National Certificate Vocational), Level 4, issued by Council for General and Further Education & Training: 1. At least 60% in three fundamental subjects, including the LoLT of the institution: English (official language at first additional language level, 20 credits) at NQF Level 4; Mathematics (20 credits) at NQF Level 4 OR Mathematical Literacy (20 credits) requiring a pass rate of at least (70%). 2. Achieve at least 70% in four vocational subjects: (20 credits each), chosen from the NC(V) Level 4 subjects: An additional language (other than the LoLT at the institution), either Afrikaans or isiXhosa; Three, of which at least two are 20 credit bearing vocational subjects, related to the elective offerings of the specific Teacher Education programme for which you’ve applied. All applications which comply with the minimum criteria will be considered in the next round of selection which could include the consideration of: quality of academic result, admission examinations, interviews, a confidential report requested from the principal of a particular school.
