Important information

NMU’s Applicant Score (AS) uses six Grade 12 NSC percentages (actual % on your results — not March trials). Life Orientation is not included in the base total (max 600). You must include home language, first additional language, and Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy or Technical Mathematics, plus other subjects required by your programme. If you took more than six subjects, the university uses compulsory subjects plus the next-best marks; this form assumes you enter the six that match that rule. Applicants from quintile 1–3 schools who achieve 50% or higher in Life Orientation receive 7 extra points on top of the 600.

Are you from a quintile 1 to 3 school?

* All South African public ordinary schools are categorised into five groups, called quintiles. Quintile 1 to 3 are non-fee paying schools, while Quintile 4 & 5 are fee paying schools

NMU Applicant Score (AS)

Summary from the NMU undergraduate admission information: AS is based on six subjects as percentages, excluding Life Orientation from the base score (maximum 600).

How NMU describes the AS
  • Include home language, first additional language, and Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, or Technical Mathematics, plus other subjects required for your programme and your next-best subjects, to six subjects in total (seven NSC subjects: drop LO from the percentage sum).
  • Applicants from quintile 1–3 schools who achieve 50% or higher in Life Orientation have 7 points added to arrive at the final AS.
  • Programme-specific minimum AS and subject marks still apply; use the official prospectus or faculty for your choice of study.
