CPUT APS Calculation Methods

Cape Peninsula University of Technology uses different calculation methods depending on your chosen program.

Method 1: Best of six

Sum of six subject % (excluding Life Orientation) ÷ 10.

APS = (57+55+50+54+43+45) ÷ 10 = 30.4

Example from CPUT prospectus

Method 2: Double Maths & Science

English + 2×Mathematics + 2×Physical Sciences + 4th best subject, ÷ 10.

APS = (57+110+100+54) ÷ 10 = 32.1

Physical Sciences required in subjects 5–7

Method 3: Double Maths & Accounting

English + 2×Mathematics + 2×Accounting + 3 next best subjects, ÷ 10.

APS = (57+110+124+54+48+65) ÷ 10 = 45.8

Accounting required in subjects 5–7

Important Notes:
  • Life Orientation cannot be used in any CPUT APS calculation
  • CPUT uses percentage marks directly, then divides by 10 — not standard 1–7 APS points
  • You must also meet individual subject admission requirements for your programme
  • English is required; Method 2 needs Physical Sciences; Method 3 needs Accounting
