Introducing the UQ Student Community: A Forum Built for South African Students
University Qualifications is excited to introduce the UQ Student Community, a free online forum created for South African students who need a place to ask questions, share advice, and connect with others on the journey to university.
Whether you are applying to university, calculating your APS, looking for bursaries, waiting for NSFAS feedback, choosing a course, or trying to understand student life, the UQ Student Community gives you a space to learn from students who may have already experienced what you are going through.
Why We Created the UQ Student Community
Every day, thousands of students use University Qualifications to calculate APS scores, check course eligibility, view university prospectuses, and explore study options.
However, not every student question can be answered by a calculator or a prospectus.
Some questions need real experiences, honest advice, and practical answers from other students.
For example:
My APS is 28. Should I apply for a BSc degree or start with a Higher Certificate?
Has anyone received NSFAS feedback yet?
What is first-year residence life really like?
I missed the closing date. Which universities still accept late applications?
Which courses can I study with my APS score?
What documents do I need before applying?
These are the kinds of questions that students often ask online, but the answers are scattered across different platforms. The UQ Student Community brings those conversations into one dedicated space for South African students.
What You Can Discuss on the Forum
The UQ Student Community is organised around topics that matter most to students, applicants, and learners preparing for higher education.
You can join discussions about:
APS and University Applications
Ask questions about APS scores, university application requirements, closing dates, late applications, course eligibility, and how to improve your chances of being accepted.
Bursaries and Funding
Discuss NSFAS, bursaries, scholarships, student funding opportunities, allowances, required documents, and ways to manage student finances.
Courses and Careers
Get insight into different study fields, including Medicine, Computer Science, Education, Engineering, Law, Accounting, Nursing, and more. Students can ask what a course is really like before choosing where and what to study.
Matric and NSC Support
Learners can discuss matric results, rewrites, upgrades, study tips, exam preparation, and how Grade 12 marks affect university admission.
Student Life
Talk about accommodation, residence life, first-year challenges, campus experiences, transport, budgeting, and adjusting to university life.
Internships, Jobs and Career Readiness
Students can also discuss internships, graduate programmes, part-time work, career advice, and preparing for life after graduation.
Postgraduate Study, TVET and International Students
The forum also includes space for postgraduate students, TVET college students, and international students who need guidance on applications, requirements, and study pathways.

A Safe and Moderated Student Space
We know that misinformation about university applications, NSFAS, bursaries, and admission requirements can easily spread online.
That is why the UQ Student Community is designed to be a safe, respectful, and moderated space.
The forum has clear community guidelines to help keep discussions helpful, accurate, and student-focused. The goal is to create a community where students can ask questions without fear, share useful answers, and support one another.
