  • A Bachelor’s Pass
  • A minimum average of 65% or above

Tertiary students must have:

  • An academic average of 65% or above
  • Strong academic performance for the latest academic years, including 2025 and 2026 where applicable

Who Does Not Qualify?

The bursary is not open to all qualification types or institutions.

You do not qualify if you are studying towards:

  • N4, N5, or N6
  • Higher Certificate
  • Diploma
  • Advanced Diploma
  • Master’s Degree
  • Doctoral Degree

You also do not qualify if you are studying through:

  • TVET colleges
  • Community colleges
  • Graduate or business schools
  • Distance-learning institutions
  • UNISA

Important Conditions

Applicants should carefully read the bursary conditions before applying.

The Capitec External Bursary includes a work-back obligation. This means successful applicants may be required to work back for every year of funding received. If the work-back obligation is not fulfilled, the applicant may be required to repay the value of the bursary benefits received, plus interest.

Applicants must also provide accurate and truthful information. Any misrepresentation, undisclosed paid employment, or failure to study full-time may result in the bursary being terminated and funds being recovered.

Certified documents must be less than three months old.
