How to Calculate APS

When calculating your APS, it's important to note that universities have their own unique methods of calculating APS.

For example, at WITS, the APS calculation is based on the best seven subjects, including Life Orientation. Their scale of achievement is different from that of the NSC, with NSC you have a scale of 1 to 7 with 1 representing (0-29), 2(30-39), 3(40-49), 4(50-59), 5(60-69), 6(70-79), 7(80-100) , while Wits has a scale of 0 to 8 with 0 representing (0-39), 3(40-49),4(50-59) 5(60-69), 6(70-79), 7(80-89), 8(90-100).

So, when using Wits scale of achievement, you do not get any score for any subject that has a mark lower than 40% (level 3). When you have a mark between 80% and 89% in any subject, you get 7 points and 8 points if your mark is between 90 and 100%. On top of that, 2 more points are added to Maths and English if the mark is 60% (level 5) or greater, and the maximum score for Life Orientation is 4.

At UJ and UP, the APS calculation is based on the 6 subjects excluding Life Orientation, they use the same scale of achievement to that of the NSC, which makes it very easy and simple. UJ and UP use the same method. UWC also uses a different scale of achievement, which is almost similar to that of Wits.

The takeaway from this is that each university has its own method of calculating APS, which means you can't use one university's requirements for another,  you cannot use UJ APS calculation requirements in calculating APS for UCT or Wits APS calculation requirements in calculating Aps for TUT. It's important to be aware that not all websites and mobile apps accurately calculate APS, and using the wrong method could lead to inaccurate results.

However, you don't have to worry about going over each and every university's APS calculation requirements, which might be time-consuming, confusing, and frustrating. Our website and mobile app, available on the Google Play Store, makes it easy for you to calculate your APS using your subjects and marks. The results you get are 100% accurate.

In order to calculate your APS, you can either visit universityqualifications or download the mobile app on the play store.
